Stowe House as the Phillips Inn

Stowe house was named after Harriet Beecher Stowe, who saw to its restoration around 1853. Harriet and her husband, Calvin, lived in Samaritan House at the time as Calvin was teaching at the Seminary.

Before Stowe house was renovated, it had been used as a place for student activities and a dump. When Harriet became interested in the building in 1853, the building was a shell and lead to it being renovated. She and her husband then lead many school events in it. In 1888, a wing was added to the building allowing Stowe House to serve as the Phillips Inn. After 1985, a middle dormer was added. In 1929 the house was moved to Bartlet Steet and a new Inn was built.
