- Description
- Photos show views of the gravestone of Elizabeth Boit in Lakeside Cemetery on North Avenue. The plot is located near "Rainbow Path" at the northern end of the cemetery.
- Boit was one of the founders of the Harvard Knitting Mills, a clothing manufacturer and major employer in Wakefield in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Miss Boit also founded the Wakefield Home for Aged Women in 1894 to 'furnish a home for women who have been residents of the town of Wakefield not less than ten years. ' The home still exists at 5 Bennett Street and was renamed the 'Elizabeth E. Boit Home for Aged Women' in 1921 in recognition of Boit's contributions.
- Elizabeth Boit's birth date is cited in several published sources as July 9, 1848, but the inground stone at her grave says 1849.
