- Photo shows the Deacon Thomas Kendel grave stone in the Old Burying Ground on Church Street. The slate headstone was carved by the "Charlestown Carver", and is considered one of the earliest and best examples of Puritan cemetery carving in New England. Various sources date the stone to 1678, although others record Kendall's death in 1684.
- "Fugit hora - Memento & esse mortalem - Upon ye death of Thomas Kendel here in ye earth is laid one of ye 7 of this church foundation so to remaien tel yt powerful voice say ris inherit a gloris habitation. A patarn of piaet & love & for peace but now alas how short his place here we mourn we moust to seize on second like gold now layd in dust. " - inscription from headstone.
