PDF photo compilation titled "Tower of Terror" accompanies the following memory for the Melrose Covid Project:
-
I saved this photo compilation under the somewhat facetious title, Tower of Terror. It's not that scary. It's a Lego tower. It's 7 stories tall. We started it when quarantine started. At the time, the terror was new, and really not as much terror as unease. We didn't know what was happening but knew it was something. And we knew were were home with 2 kids who would get antsy fast.
I had the idea, to have something to look forward to each day, that we'd add one story to our Lego tower each day. Goodness knows we have plenty of Lego in the basement to work with. You may think we only made it one week (7 stories). But we actually only ran out of interest in "floors" rather than time or building materials. We also did a subsequent set of 7 vehicles, 7 amusement park rides and 7 rainbow color blocks. While the Tower of Terror might seem grim, it also represents one of the pleasant memories of quarantine... when we, our small family, was safe and secure and healthy and together. We had quality time together that we hadn't had in a long time. We did things we hadn't done in a long time... build and bake and be.
